The story arc began in JSA #68 (see our review)
and never stopped steamrolling with exciting action and surprising
plot twists. JSA #72 concludes the arc not only with climactic
action but also with a strong focus on the characters.

the McCarthy hearings in JSA #68) left all the JSA members past
and present disgraced and scorned. The government ordered the JSA of
the past to unmask and reveal their secret identities. The team
declined and voted instead to disband. The present day JSA had to
convince their predecessors to rejoin the team or else the present day
team would also cease to exist.
Time and again, Geoff Johns impresses me with his skilled writing,
revealing components from each hero's life and their inner emotions
and struggles. The last panels of the story in particular had a
personal touch with Stargirl returning home anxious to learn whether
the outcome of this epic confrontation was successful. I was left with
a feeling of admiration for all the characters in this story, even the
evil Degaton.
Overall, I give the entire series a 5.0 rating. The story
showcased a difficult era in American history and the juxtaposition of
heroes present and past was compelling and thought-provoking reading.
I'm not going to say this is the best story I've ever read about the
JSA; this is just the beginning. With the occurrences in the DC
Universe surrounding Infinite Crisis, the greatest JSA story is
yet to come.
