Hawkman and Hawkgirl are investigating sightings of The Monolith
and are interrupted by the raging Solomon Grundy.
A helicopter is transporting Solomon Grundy to a Criminal
rehabilitation facility; Solomon awakens from being sedated and forces
the Helicopter to crash. Hawkman and Hawkgirl see the crash and that
Solomon was on board. Tilt and Alice,
two friends of The Monolith (who keep The Monolith in their basement),
are attending a seminar given by Dr. Angelo Kinetti who is in charge
of the criminal research facility that captured Solomon Grundy.
When Tilt and Alice leave the seminar they are caught in the path
of Solomon's rampage. Hawkman and Hawkgirl are unable to contain
Solomon. The Monolith comes to the rescue fending off the crazed
Solomon Grundy. Hawkman now has an encounter with The Monolith first
hand as he, Hawkman and Hawkgirl defeat Solomon.
Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti have Hawkman and Hawkgirl
in a good battle using wit to contain both Solomon Grundy and The
Monolith. The writers touch briefly on a changing relationship between
Hawkman and Hawkgirl. Next issue starts a new storyline that is sure
to ruffle a few feathers for Hawkman fans.
The Artwork by Andy Smith is very clean and crisp the
readers can see good detail in his pencil work. The battle scenes
bring out the power of both Solomon and The Monolith in huge
detail. The coloring by John Kalisz gives you the exact look of city
lights reflecting off buildings and shadows from the moonlight.
Overall, the book is a good story and serves as a set-up for some
weird things to come in Hawkman's life.
