Pigeons from Hell was a
unique book that quickly endeared the core cast of characters to the
reader within the first few opening panels. A rather difficult feat,
mind you. That alone, in my mind, at least, is pretty fine writing.
There are obscure glimpses and ominous premonitions of both the
unnatural and supernatural that are strewn throughout the book that
serve as both prickly teases and haunting foreshadows.
The rather angular and rough lines are realistic enough to grab you
emotionally to live viscerally through the characters. The pages are
flooded in blood red and deathly black to set the visually creepy
undertone. The artwork and colors work in perfect unison to scare the
daylights out of you. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series
with the fearful and fun uneasiness I had after watching and looking
forward to the old John Carpenter horror flicks like Halloween or The Thing. Lansdale and Fox have
created a horror masterpiece.
