On reality TV as in modern life, emotions are staged to match
melodramatic effects or fit social norms, and manufactured crises
compel more attention than human-created catastrophes in war zones,
refugee camps and disaster areas.
“The badboy scion of a media empire produces a renegade global-chase
show for adventurers living high-stakes, low-options lives.”

This is the backdrop for Adrenaline, an all-too-believable
thriller which recasts the game dynamic of reality shows and the
Darwinian contest of life in a way that gives endless opportunities
for action and extensive food for thought.
The badboy scion of a media empire is producing a renegade
global-chase show for which he’s recruited dead-end ex-GIs,
desperate doctors in impoverished lands, and other adventurous types
living high-stakes, low-options lives. They’re fighting over the
resources to advance themselves and their causes, while their producer
is fighting for ratings with their lives as the collateral. There are
riveting complications and conflicts, as true reality — the most
formidable player in the mix — insists on going off-script.
Writer Tyler Chin-Tanner has a good instinct for adventure
essentials and a good ear for realistic conversation and human comedy.
Artist James Boyle has a minimal style that catches fundamentals of
motion and expression well — rudimentary at times, but sharpening and
filling out over the course of the series.
Five installments of Adrenaline’s first eight-issue arc have
been printed, but these and the rest will now be available as free
downloads at Wowio.com in advance of the trade. Take a look at
one — or five — and you’re likely to become an
Adrenaline junkie too.
