What happens when your worst enemies multiply
themselves one hundred times over? The answer is Chaos. The Legion of
Superheroes From the 31st Century are attacked by The Fatal Five and
recruits The Teen Titans from the 21st Century for help.
This story is the continuation from The Teen Titans #16.
The Legion of Superheroes from the 31st century are attacked by The
Fatal Five: Tharok, Emerald Princess, Mano, Persuader, and
Valdius. The Fatal Five used the power of the Persuader’s weapon (his
axe can teleport to different worlds) to duplicate the Fatal Five from
various dimensions so together they can attack and destroy the Legion
once and for all.
Writers Mark Waid and Geoff Johns have Superboy struggling with the
thought of leaving The Teen Titans for The Legion. In the heat of
battle Superboy must choose between friendship and his feelings for
his newfound home of the 31st century. The story leads to different
parallel instances between the Legion and the Teen Titans. For
example, Kid Flash from the Titans working with his cousin XS from the
Legion use their combined speed to reverse the time loophole caused by
the Fatal Five. The story also sets you up for the next issue (Teen
Titans #17) which debuts the "Teen Titans of Tomorrow" saga.
The artwork by Ivan Reis and Joe Prado (pencillers) and Marc Campos
(inker) is extraordinary. The battle scenes with the hordes of The
Fatal Five are some of the most detailed and fluid panels I have seen
in awhile. Sno-cone (colors) gives vibrant and spectacular depths and
hues, and the coloring for the spreadsheets are amazing.
This book also features a sneak peek at the forthcoming Legion of
Superheroes #1. The short story, written by Mark Waid and drawn by
Barry Kitson, gives a look at the struggles of an adolescent who
wants to be understood by his parents. The parents (as many of the
other parents in the 31st century) feel their son is becoming too
consumed with the exploits of The Legion and needs to concentrate on his
studying. The young man will surprise his parents by running away with
his new friends The Legion of Superheroes.
Overall this is an excellent book. This is what you pay your money
for: a good story and great artwork. Could The Legion and The Teen
Titans team up again? Will Superboy return to fight alongside The
Legion again? Only time will tell.
