This is an action packed and gritty battle with Axis and Allied forces in WWII coming together to fight against hordes of demons. This is the premise, from Image Comics and Desperado Publishing Common Foes #1, written by Keith Giffen and Shannon Denton.

The passionate World War II story reminds me of the TV series Combat and Rat Patrol, and the movie Stalag 17, where at times you must join forces with your enemy against something sinister or detrimental to both sides.

The exquisite penciling by Jean-Jacques Dzialowski brings you right into the heat of the battle…

The story takes place in war-torn Belgium, where the German army started an Ardennes offensive. The two armies are taken by surprise, attacked by demons. Giffen and Denton constructively brought the two forces together in spite of the differences between them. This is war, and as soon as they defend themselves against the minions, they are back fighting against each other.

The exquisite penciling by Jean-Jacques Dzialowski brings you right into the heat of the battle with dialogue and the unpleasant realities of war. Common Foe #1 displays great artwork with an eerie feel to the panels and a heroic storyline with soldiers from both regiments defying the odds against demons from Hell. Esad Ribic's cover resonates with rich and deep emerald tones. The scene is truly amazing and sets the mood for the book. Watch out Alex Ross!

I highly recommend Common Foe #1 for its originality and concept: bringing unity to a group of characters that have to learn the value of putting their beliefs aside and working together to survive.
