Some FDIC information:
“The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) has established a 24-hour hotline to answer questions from bankers and consumers affected by Hurricane Katrina. Information about bank accounts, lost financial records, ATM cards, direct deposits, and how to contact a bank branch can be obtained by calling 1-877-ASK-FDIC or 1-877-275-3342. The FDIC also set up a special Web page with an up-to-date database detailing the operational status of financial institutions at http://www.fdic.gov/news/katrina/index.html.”
