What's that crazy purple banner about, anyways?

Ahoy!
Here, being the very first (sub) installment of “Voices From
The Other Side,” I will simply clue you in on what to expect in
this space in the future.
“Voices From The Other Side” will be committed to
bringing the work, opinions, views, and general babblings of the small
press community to public. Each installment will be dedicated to one
small press creator, team of creators, special event, etc.
The small press has sort of rode the waves of the industry, and
occasionally turning the tides. With books like Jeff Smith’s
Bone, Dave Sim’s Cerebus, and Mike Allred’s
Madman a great deal of attention was directed toward this nook
of the industry, but doomsayers have said time and again, with the
ending of these books sometime ago that the small press, as an entity,
would go under.
Well, the small press, in my own findings, is quite strong, with
many new creators popping up, and great art and ideas being put forth
in books that the Big Two would view as existing under the sales
radar.
Several conventions, such as SPX, that are dedicated solely to the
small press, draw a crowd that would also testify to the fertility of
independent comics. Everything from mini-comics to professionally
printed graphic novels are available on the outskirts of Marvel, DC,
Dark Horse and Image (the latter two of which being wonderful bridges
between the small press and the Big Two). Quality varies, of course,
but one thing is for sure: The small press comic you hold is exactly
as the creators intended it to be, for good or bad.
So, what exactly will you find here? Interviews, artwork, comic
book previews, maybe the very first look at the next Jeff Smith, Dave
Sim, or Mike Allred! The small press might be small in issue quantity,
but quite large in innovative, cutting-edge ideas. Stay tuned for our
first (real) installment, featuring Eric Adams, creator of the comic
Lackluster World.
Come on back now, y’hear!
